About The Collage Collective

Whether you’re a seasoned artist or picking up scissors for the first time, there’s a seat for you at our table.

The Collage Collective began with a pair of scissors, a stack of vintage magazines, and a deep belief that creativity belongs to everyone.

More Than a Workshop

The Collage Collective is more than just one class, we're a community. We aim to help you be more creative!

Embrace The Zen

Collage art is a great way to practice mindfulness and process emotions. It's low mess and committment.

Find Your Hidden Talent

Tried a Sip and Paint and didn't find your talent? We don't replicate, you will find your creativity here.

Our Mission

To make collage art accessible, empowering, and unapologetically creative — for everyone.

To make collage art accessible, inclusive, and empowering by providing curated materials, hands-on workshops, and creative experiences that inspire self-expression, storytelling, and connection. We champion a practice that values imperfection, celebrates diversity, and invites everyone to create with confidence.

Our Vision

To make the world a more beautiful place, one collage at a time!

We want to help make the world a more beautiful place through creative safety, trauma-informed practices, and environmentally sustainable practices. We break down barriers to help stop toxic practices in the art world. No gatekeeping, toxicity, elitism or discrimination based on gender or race.

Our Values

At the heart of everything we do is C.O.L.L.A.G.E. — a vision that goes beyond cut-outs and glue. It’s a philosophy rooted in creativity, connection, and transformation.

This is more than art. It’s a movement. A collective reimagining of what we can create, together.

Create

C is for Create – We nurture spaces where creative expression flourishes, encouraging everyone to tell their story through collage.

Observe

O is for Observe – We slow down and pay attention, finding inspiration in the forgotten, the vintage, the overlooked.

Liberate

L is for Liberate – Collage is our freedom. It’s how we release emotion, embrace identity, and make sense of chaos.

Learn

L is for Learn – We believe in lifelong learning. Through workshops and collaboration, we grow together as artists and humans.

Assemble

A is for Assemble – We bring together not just materials, but people. Collage is community — diverse, layered, and whole.

Grow

G is for Grow – Art is a catalyst for growth. We support each other to take risks, build confidence, and evolve creatively.

Empower

E is for Empower – Our mission is to empower every person who picks up scissors and glue to find their voice — bold, messy, and true.

In 2024, Australia’s leading collage artist, Madelaine Buttini, founded The Collage Collective. After being made redundant, Madelaine wanted to create a community rooted in connection, creativity, and community. From humble beginnings on kitchen tables to a nationwide movement, The Collage Collective has developed into a collective about self-expression and accessibility.

Madelaine noticed a gap in the market for more diverse art communities. With most experiences focused around “Paint & Sips” revolving around alcohol and one-time exposure to the arts, she turned to her origins—cutting, pasting, and piecing. With this, a new community through collage formed.

What started as a personal reconnection with creativity and community, quickly became a shared space for others to do the same. Since then, The Collage Collective has hosted workshops across museums, festivals, corporate offices, public workshops and community centres. Every collage interaction is focused through empowering people of all ages, genders, and abilities to find joy in the art of cutting and creating.

Our mission has always been simple: to make art that’s sustainable, inclusive, and soul-nourishing. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or picking up scissors for the first time, there’s a seat for you at our table.

Our Sustainability Statement

We believe art shouldn’t cost the earth. Our practice is rooted in sustainability — reimagining, reusing, and repurposing materials that already exist. From vintage magazines to discarded books, we give new life to the forgotten and the found. By choosing collage, we choose conscious creativity — one cut-out at a time.
